Former Head of Medicare Sean Cavanaugh Joins PatientPing
Boston, MA (August 8th, 2017) – PatientPing, a health technology company that connects providers to seamlessly coordinate patient care, announced today that Sean Cavanaugh will be joining its team as an Advisor. Cavanaugh, a renowned expert in health financing, most recently served as the head of the Center for Medicare, running their $650 billion program that insures 57 million senior and disabled Americans.
“We are at the outset of a sweeping transformation of our healthcare delivery system towards one that delivers high quality, coordinated care,” said Cavanaugh. “PatientPing is an incredible platform that will accelerate our healthcare system to perform more efficiently and effectively, and I look forward to working with Jay and the PatientPing team to continue what I feel is the necessary nationwide adoption of their technology.”
While serving at CMS, Sean Cavanaugh was responsible for developing the regulations and payment policies for Medicare providers. At CMS, he also administered private Medicare Advantage health plans and oversaw the Medicare prescription drug program. Sean led the development and broad expansion of Accountable Care Organizations through the Medicare Shared Savings Program and the Pioneer ACO Model. He was also an early leader at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, which has launched many other delivery system reforms including bundled payments, primary care medical homes and state innovation models. He received his Master of Public Health in Health Finance and Management from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
“I worked closely with Sean at CMS and it’s a privilege to be able to work closely with him again,” said PatientPing CEO Jay Desai. “PatientPing works with many of the Medicare ACOs in the country today and is expanding very rapidly. We’re looking forward to working with Sean to continue learning how our programs can help Medicare providers succeed. We’re thrilled to have Sean join our journey towards rapid nationwide expansion that will allow any two or more providers anywhere that share a patient to simply coordinate with one another.”
PatientPing’s network includes tens of thousands of providers nationwide. In December 2016, PatientPing announced $31.6 million funding led by Andreessen Horowitz. PatientPing is rapidly accelerating its nationwide expansion so that any providers who share patients anywhere in the country can coordinate with one another.
